What will attract college students to work at my startup?
I'm starting up a customer service / technical support company (calling it "Cleantegrity") that is exclusively focused on providing outsourced call center services for "cleantech" companies. The first location will be in San Marcos, and the workforce will primarily come from Texas State University students. I need to find out what will get the buzz in the hallways so the top students clamor to work at Cleantegrity (versus retail or having to drive I-35 in to Austin).

Demographic relations +0

Try to identify the closest demographic to your service. The more the demographics knows about the subject, the more they can be enthused. Pay on commission rather than hourly. Treat the best ones as if they were your customers like salesmen do. Tickets to sports venues, parties, drinks etc.    Suggested by Dan

Treat them like adults, with respect -1

College students aren't idiots. They know when they're being manipulated and messed with. If you treat them with respect and communicate about your needs with honesty and openness, you'll be successful with that population.    Suggested by nathan

The concept of a meaningful job - and having their opinion / work count for something, will attract students who usually flip burgers and sell clothing. And the right environment could be fun. If it's mostly students, it probably *will* be fun.    Suggested by Lisa

Don't do generic info sessions where any bozo can come, focus it on a particular major or group if at all possible, it will increase the chances that you get high-caliber people not just high-volume    Suggested by Marc

The allure of hitting it big is very attractive - if you can take care of your people at the basic level but allow them to really make a lot of cash by hitting performance metrics, you can compel a lot of people to work very hard for the potential reward.    Suggested by Marc

Do on-campus info sessions with giveaways +1

We were able to attract kids to our info sessions by giving away a highly desirable piece of technology or toy - like a Nintendo Wii. The giveaway got them to the info session, the culture pitch got them wanting the job more than the Wii    Suggested by Marc

When I worked at a software company that was doing the most boring enterprise software in the world, we managed to wind 9 times out of 10 against companies like Microsoft and Yahoo! because we focused on the culture of high-risk, high-reward, entrepreneurial spirit, working with the smartest people, etc. The kids barely knew what kind of software they were going to write but they all wanted to come. It allowed us to stand out from the crowd even though we didn't have the most exciting work.    Suggested by Marc

In the younger generation, their amygdla is 1% larger than us older folks. Which means they value the experience of the work environment more than money, and even kudos from their boss. What will the experience be like to work in this call center?    Suggested by Bryan

Excellent starter job to get to know what happens in the corporate world. Far better first job on a resume than other college jobs.    Suggested by Rio
